I wonder what the theory was behind splitting the throat and re-unifying it back into a common horn mouth.

My guess is that mechanical packaging dictated that. It's a clever way to get a relatively long horn in a compact space.

That horn is out of a Victor Orthophonic Granada phonograph.

Thanks Cbooch !!! The one listed on eBay is for $350 that seems cheap for a 1926 piece of equipment in decent shape. Victor company a precursor to RCA/Victor. They were bought by RCA in 1929.. It was made in Camden,NJ where RCA was headquartered back then and obviously Victor as well...

That's were Nipper came from. The Victrola. They were also part of JVC before WW II.
